Chopin was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist of the Romantic era. He published his first composition at age 7 and began performing one year later. In 1832, when Chopin was 21 years old, he moved to Paris. He supported himself by selling his compositions and by giving piano lessons, for which he was in high demand. In 1835, Chopin obtained French citizenship. For most of his life, Chopin didn’t have a good health. He died in Paris in 1849 at the age of 39. Chopin invented the concept of instrumental ballade. His major piano works also include mazurkas, waltzes, nocturnes, polonaises, études, impromptus, scherzos, preludes and sonatas, some published only after his death.
